Standard NED Heads Hooks

We make our Standard NED Heads with a variety of hooks. If you see we are out of stock for a NED with your preferred hook, drop us a line via our contact page to request your desired NED.

When it comes to the quality of a hook, we are not so sure if premium hooks are actually an advantage when used for NED Heads. We have never had a problem with a fish 'bending' an economy hook (keeping in mind we do not horse fish out of weeds and wood).

The cost of the hooks varies based on the quality of the hook. We will list the hooks used based on the quality of the hook:

Gamakatsu 114 (Premium)

This is probably the best hook available for our NED Heads. It is very strong and has a really sharp hook point. When it comes to quality, we believe it is a toss-up between the Gamakatsu and the Owner 5313 / 5318. The 114 can be used in the following sizes and weights:
  • #1: 1/16, 3/32, 1/8, 5/32, 3/16, 1/4.
  • 1/0: 3/32, 1/8, 5/32, 3/16, 1/4.
  • 2/0: 3/32, 1/8, 5/32, 3/16, 1/4.
  • 3/0: 3/32, 1/8, 5/32, 3/16, 1/4.

Owner 5313 (Premium)

When it comes to quality, we believe it is a toss-up between the Owner 5313 and the Gamakatsu 114.
  • Round bend, and X strong, forged shank.
  • curved in point.
  • corrosion-resistant black chrome finish.
The 5313 can be used in the following sizes and weights:
  • #1: 1/16, 3/32, 1/8, 5/32, 3/16, 1/4.
  • 1/0: 1/16,3/32, 1/8, 5/32, 3/16, 1/4.

Owner 5318 (Premium)

When it comes to quality, we believe it is a toss-up between the Owner 5318 and the Gamakatsu 114.
  • Round bend, and light wire shank that encourages deep hook penetration and makes it easy to bend hook enough to pull free of snags.
The 5318 can be used in the following sizes and weights:
  • 1/0: 1/16, 3/32, 1/8, 5/32, 3/16, 1/4.
  • 2/0: 3/32, 1/8, 5/32, 3/16, 1/4.
  • 3/0: 3/32, 1/8, 5/32, 3/16, 1/4.
  • 4/0: 3/32, 1/8, 5/32, 3/16, 1/4.

VMC 7147 (Medium quality)

  • Light wire shank that encourages deep hook penetration and makes it easy to bend hook enough to pull free of snags.
  • The shank is not as strong as the Owner 5318.
We have yet to utilize the 7147 for our Standard NED Heads (it is pretty hard to come by). If you have any interest in this hook drop us a line and we will put more energy into finding some.

The 7147 can be used in the following sizes and weights:

  • #1: 1/16, 3/32, 1/8, 5/32, 3/16, 1/4.
  • 1/0: 1/16, 3/32, 1/8, 5/32, 3/16, 1/4.
  • 2/0: 3/16, 1/4.

VMC 9147 (Economy)

  • Light wire shank that encourages deep hook penetration and makes it easy to bend hook enough to pull free of snags.

Eagle Claw 500 (Economy, Light Wire)

We personally use this hook ourselves a lot on our NED Heads. The 'Pro-V-Bend' makes this hook slightly stronger than the Eagle Claw 570.
