Core Shot Profiles

'Core Shot' baits seem to be all the rage when it comes to Sticks and NED's. As far as we are concerned the jury is still out on Core Shot stick baits. We offer no opinion on whether or not a Core Shot bait will catch more or less fish than a non-Core Shot bait. With that said they certainly look pretty cool!

It is clear that the presence of the clear / translucent Shell over the solid Core does create an interesting effect with the light reflecting and being refracted by the layers within the bait. We suppose it is possible that this effect may attract more fish than a standard colored bait.

A Core Shot bait is produced as follows:

  • The outer shell is created using an un-salted clear or translucent blend. Sometimes we use glitter in the shell, other times we simply go with no glitter. We do not utilize salt in the shell due to the fact that salt clouds the material. The object is to have the shell clear / translucent allowing light to pass through the shell and reflect back off of the core.
  • The Core is then shot with a color that is contrasting to the shell color:
    • Sometimes we will shoot the Core with a blend containing salt. The purpose of the salt is to add weight to the bait which changes it's sink rate. Again, we will say that salt does 'cloud' the color of the blend.
    • Most often we shoot the Core with an un-salted blend. This is to ensure that the bait is as vibrant as possible (the Core is not 'Clouded').
