NED Origins
The origins of NED rig fishing can be traced back to several different anglers from the 1950's though the 2010's. Ned Keady is the most pointed to name amongst these fishermen, hence the name NED Rig. NED Rig fishing is most often referred to as 'Midwest Finesse' since the presentation originated in the MIdwest.
Ned started with a mushroom head jig with a small (2 3/4" - 3 1/2") and would cut a Z-Man 5" ZinkerZ in half and attach the tail half to the jig. Since then, Neds presentation has had the mushroom head jig replaced by a true NED jig and the half stick bait replaced by a true stumpy small worm that is fat at the head and tapers to the tail. This type of NED profile is often referred to as a 'Turd' after the Z-Man TRD NED bait.
